Proposal for the redevelopment of the Parmalat milk distribution and processing facility located at 65 Montague Road, South Brisbane
Lachlan Munns - St Laurence's College
The 2021 Secondary Student Project is awarded to Lachlan Munns, a Year 11 Geography student at St. Laurence’s College, Brisbane. His student assignment seeks to address a relatively high profile planning problem: the possible redevelopment of the iconic Parmalat milk factory site on Kurilpa Point.
Lachlan’s analysis is summarised in a lengthy and highly visual report. There is a strong conceptual underpinning, good use of graphs, maps and infographics, and excellent integration of all his ideas and materials.
The judges were impressed with the fieldwork investigations and in-depth multi-dimensional analysis of primary and secondary data including demographic data, surrounding land uses, disaster risk, and environmental attributes. His methods are described clearly with some helpful self-reflection about the limitations of the analysis.
Particularly impressive was Lachlan’s development of a full proposal for the development site, which is comprehensive and made use of the site’s heritage buildings and included a major new dining precinct for the city, as well as a new river pool based on the latest in floating pool technology
