THE VALUE OF PLANNING … for active transport
The COVID-19 crisis has changed many aspects of life we had taken for granted, including how we get around. For some, public transport is no longer an option, but does that mean always taking the car? We could ride or walk, but what about the hills and the heat?
The speakers, Greg Vann RÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â (Life Fellow), Director, Brisbane, Ethos Urban and Ludo Campbell-Reid, Director, City Design & Liveability, Wyndham City Council have a passion for and extensive experience in active transport and more balanced transport systems, here and abroad. They outline the benefits and articulate the challenges in achieving the cultural change that makes them effective and how obstacles have been overcome elsewhere in the world.
About the speakers:
Greg Vann RÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â (Life Fellow) has been at the forefront of planning in Queensland for over 40 years. Greg’s many leadership positions include life fellow, former State President and National Councillor of the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Êͼ¿â, project director of the latest SEQ Regional Plan, chair of the State’s Transit Oriented Development Taskforce, Board member of Bicycle Qld numerous university and government advisory groups and is a current board member of Qld Walks. He champions the need for more balanced transport offering people real choices.
Ludo Campbell-Reid is a globally renowned City Planner, Urban Design thought leader and key note speaker. As former Design Champion at City of Auckland and founding CEO Urban Design London (a pan London organisation set up by The Mayor of London, TFL and UK Government) he has advised Communities, Mayors, Cities, Local Authorities and Governments around the world on how to improve their cities, streets, transport systems and public spaces. Ludo is currently the Director of City Design & Liveability at Wyndham City, Melbourne - the fastest growing LGA in Australia and situated within The Avalon Growth Corridor, the fastest growing area in Australia.
