About the Role
An exciting opportunity exists to play a pivotal role implementing a new project within CFA. We are looking for an experienced Strategic Planner wanting to take the next step in their career.
This project offers an excellent opportunity to use your planning expertise. You will be working alongside a small team of land use planning and bushfire specialists and play a key role in the ongoing review and implementation of a new bushfire risk information tool that is currently under development.
Whilst some familiarity with bushfire policy and related planning controls is preferred, we encourage anyone with significant planning and/or policy experience, superior writing skills and a willingness to work as part of the team to apply for the role. Additional opportunities exist to plan for future growth and learn more about bushfire, its behaviour and how it can affect planning and decision making.

About You
- Tertiary qualified in urban or regional land use planning (or similar) and experience in strategic planning (preferred) or statutory planning.
- Strong understanding of the Victorian planning system and provisions, settlement and growth planning, planning scheme amendment process, role of referral authorities and planning for natural hazards, including bushfire.
- Experience in strategic and statutory planning including the assessment of permit applications, settlement growth planning, planning scheme amendments and policy development.
- An understanding of how to influence and implement planning policy objectives to address planning and building issues associated with natural hazards and emergency management.
- Proven knowledge and/or experience of planning for bushfire is preferred.
- Ability to work as part of a small team and helps others develop land use planning skills.
- High level written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to prepare reports, submissions and planning policy.
- High level negotiation skills with the ability to influence outcomes and think strategically to develop creative solutions to meet desired outcomes.
- Experience in the establishment of internal processes, procedures and guidance to facilitate consistent decision making.
