The City of Launceston is the largest local government authority in Tasmania, employing people across a broad range of specialist and essential sectors, services and facilities.
We're looking for an experienced Senior Town Planner to join our collaborative City Development Team in this permanent, full-time senior role working a 19-day month.
This rewarding role is responsible for the statutory functions and duties of a Local Government Town Planner, including:
- undertaking efficient, accurate and timely assessments of planning applications that meet relevant legislation, Council Policy in pursuit of the desired outcomes for the municipality;
- preparing, implementing and reviewing strategic planning documents;
- professional advice to employees (including mentoring junior employees), councillors, applicants and other external parties on planning matters;
- contributing to the continuous improvement and change readiness of the planning team by enhancing current or developing new systems; and
- representing Council at community forums and planning bodies such as the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Tasmanian Planning Commission where required.
We are looking for someone who demonstrates, through behaviour, an alignment and an understanding of our values and has the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent discipline and postgraduate industry experience, preferably in local government.
- Current 'C' class drivers licence.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and assessing complex planning applications including liaising with stakeholders and representing an application in a formal hearing.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, organise and manage own time to achieve targets.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake and complete strategic planning studies and projects.
- Highly developed customer service skills including conflict resolution, problem solving and negotiation skills.
- Highly developed report writing skills and the ability to prepare and facilitate presentations with advanced communication skills.
