Strategic Planning Specialist
Council is seeking to appoint a permanent full time Strategic Planning Specialist to contribute to Council’s success.
- Work in a dynamic and experienced team
- Be at the forefront of integrated land use planning policy leading key strategic planning projects for the Gladstone Region
- Lead the strategic consideration of the Gladstone Region Planning Scheme
About the Role
The purpose of this position is to lead the development of integrated land use planning policy for the Gladstone Region via the Planning Scheme to ensure it is contemporary and responsive to local social, economic and environmental matters. The position will lead, develop, and implement key planning projects in a broad range of areas including strategic planning, policy development, planning for social and economic infrastructure and place making.
The ideal candidate will:
- Be Self-Driven and Results-Oriented: With a proven ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and proactively pursue goals with minimal supervision. Self-motivated to stay focused and productive throughout long-term policy projects.
- Have Strong Communication and Negotiation Skills: To communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively to various stakeholders. The ability to negotiate effectively will be crucial for gaining buy-in, resolving conflicts, and ensuring alignment across different parties, from government agencies to community groups.
- Bring Regional Knowledge and Analytical Acumen: The ability to gain understanding of the geography of the Gladstone region, including its infrastructure, demographics, and key issues, will be essential. The capability to analyse regional data and trends will also support strategic decision-making and planning.
You will bring:
- Degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning (or a related discipline) and high-level knowledge and skills together with substantial strategic planning experience in a local government context.
- Proficient knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 and associated planning legislation and concepts and State and regional policy documents.
- Thorough working knowledge of the Ministers Guidelines and Rules under the Planning Act 2016, the State Planning Policy and other associated legislation.
- Comprehensive experience leading, developing and implementing strategic planning projects with multiple stakeholders.
- High level problem solving and negotiation skills to engage with a broad customer and stakeholder base both internal and external to Council.
- High level communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
